Be a Part of McGill's Leading Undergraduate Research Journal

MSURJ is looking for dedicated individuals to fill a variety of roles that are crucial to the success of our journal. By becoming a part of MSURJ, you will have the opportunity to hone your skills, collaborate with like-minded peers, and make a meaningful impact on the McGill community.

MSURJ Editor

As an MSURJ Editor, you will play a central role in shaping the direction of the journal. Your responsibilities will include reviewing and editing manuscript submissions, corresponding with peer reviewers, and advising the Editors-in-Chief. Each MSURJ Editor is also assigned to one of the following specialized portfolios:

  • Journalism: Oversee The Abstract, MSURJ’s official blog. You'll manage blog posts, including article research, writing, and editing.
  • Logistics: Handle all financial operations, fundraising efforts, and event logistics. This includes booking venues and obtaining permits.
  • Outreach: Lead publicity efforts, including managing social media, advertising for editor applications, and promoting article submissions and workshops.
  • Technology: Maintain and update MSURJ’s website, manage visitor feedback, and design the final manuscript layout. Experience with InDesign, LaTeX, OJS, or web design is a plus.

Managing Editor of Journalism

We are seeking a standout candidate for the position of Managing Editor of Journalism. This role is open only to those accepted as MSURJ Editors. The Managing Editor will lead the Journalism portfolio, manage The Abstract, and oversee a team of editors and contributing writers. Strong organizational and editorial skills are essential.

The Abstract Contributing Writer

If you have a knack for writing and a passion for science communication, consider becoming a Contributing Writer for "The Abstract." You'll write two pieces each semester with guidance from our Journalism Editors and Managing Editors. While this role doesn't include membership on the MSURJ editorial board, it's an excellent opportunity to gain writing experience and engage with the McGill community.
